Each day delivers a unique symphony of light that falls on the natural world and it’s cultures. Sometimes we’re there to experience it but, alas, most times we’re not. My passion is to capture and share with you the next remarkable scene the universe presents.
My photographs capture the spirit of iconic and little known locations and bring them into your life. They will make you feel like you visited the location yourself. It's like traveling without leaving your home.
I started in photography with an early Kodak 35mm film camera given to me by my father who was a military photographer during WWII. This early camera experience re-emerged while living in the Adirondack Mountains of far northern New York. The Adirondack’s high peaks, crystal lakes and verdant forests were a stark departure from my upbringing in the New York City area. In the Adirondacks I found a home and inspiration. I return often.
The Adirondacks are alive and constantly changing. Deep winter blue gives way to delicate spring color. Summer’s clear, crisp air reveals proud mountain peaks and idyllic lakes which slowly yield to the fiery majesty of fall’s colors. These changes created the palette from which I drew my inspiration and set me further on my visual journey.
Soon I dove into "big-time" photography by selling photo stories to the local newspaper, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. Within a couple of years of creating images of the Adirondacks and its people I was awarded a transmitter by United Press International (UPI) and thus became the wire service’s photographer for northern New York. I covered a broad array of culture, nature and Olympic sports subjects which led to publication credits in major publications like the New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Skiing and many more.
Seeking a broader view of the world I headed to the west coast for a graduate education at the University of California at Berkeley which led to a stint managing professional photography marketing at Apple Computer. At the dawn of digital photography there was no better place to be than Apple. I worked closely with Nikon, Epson and Kodak and developed relationships with many well known pro photographers which I still have to this day. Working at the very center of the digital photography world gave me a head start on the technologies required to create great photographs today.
Now I travel widely, constantly searching for the scene, people and light that tells the story of humanity on this planet.
