Next on our journey across northern Italy is Verona which sits on Adige river: think Romeo and Juliette. Verona has been a crossroads for commerce and political intrigue since Roman times. This image shows the dawn sun striking the Ponte Pietra (Stone Bridge) which was completed in 100 BC. It's been used heavily by multitudes and destroyed frequently by retreating armies, most recently by the Germans in WWII. It's in full operation today and leads to the famous Piazza Erbe in central Verona.
