Central Verona
This former ancient Roman forum is Piazza della Erbe in central Verona. It's surrounded by towers, frescoed buildings from the middle ages and classic restaurants that spill casually out on the sidewalk and into the piazza. This all surrounds the central fountain built in 1368 by Cansignorio della Scala and surmounted by a statue called Madonna Verona, which is a Roman sculpture dating to 380 AD. Italy always mingles old and new.
