Star Wars In Death Valley

Until doing some research on Death Valley, I didn't realize that major parts of Star Wars IV and VI were filmed there: Star Wars Episode IV -- A New Hope and Star Wars Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi.

There's no wonder why the location was chosen. You can't find a living animal or plant in the area; perfect for simulating what we believe to be the surfaces of other planets.

This is the view walking up Golden Canyon which which was created by eons of erosion. It winds through the rock toward the west side of Zabriskie Point. And, this is one of the nine shooting locations in the movies.
