As the Ides of March approach, winter is still in full swing in my former home-base of Lake Placid, NY. This is a favorite image taken in the days when thickly built nordic men were considered the model for great ski jumpers. The whole ski jumping paradigm changed when petite, 130 lb. Finns started flying off ski jumps like birds. Light like birds and forming their bodies into airfoils they transformed the sport.
I love this photo because of the position of the jumper in relation to the famous Whiteface Mountain in the background.
